Altitude hydration is the practice of maintaining healthy fluid and electrolyte balance during travel and trekking at elevation, where colder, drier air and faster breathing significantly increase daily fluid loss.

Air at elevation is dry and cold. Each exhaled breath carries more water vapour than at sea level — adding up to a litre or more per day on big trekking days.
Thirst is a poor cue at altitude
Cold suppresses thirst. Many trekkers under-drink without realising, then attribute the resulting headache to altitude alone.
Hydration is part of acclimatisation hygiene
Good hydration does not prevent altitude sickness, but is part of standard acclimatisation advice from mountain medicine bodies — alongside slow ascent and avoiding alcohol.
