Thinking About White Label Electrolyte Sticks? The 10 Questions Every Buyer Asks — Answered

Short answer: Yes — you can put your brand on travel-specific electrolyte sticks without building a factory. The minimum order is 20,000 sticks per SKU, guide pricing runs from £0.25–£0.39 per stick depending on volume, and standard production takes a minimum of 8 weeks. Here is everything else buyers ask us, answered plainly.

If you run an airline, cruise line, hotel group, travel retailer, tour operator or wellness brand, the idea of owning your own hydration product is appealing — but the questions come fast. What does it actually cost? How long does it take? Do you need your own formula?

We answer these questions every week, so here they are in one place.

1. What is the minimum order quantity?

20,000 sticks per SKU (per flavour/formulation). That is the volume at which stick printing, film conversion and filling lines become commercially viable for both of us. Below that threshold, setup costs make per-stick pricing unattractive — anyone offering white label sticks at much lower volumes is usually rebadging a generic product rather than manufacturing to your specification.

2. What does it cost per stick?

Guide pricing is volume-based:

QuantityGuide price per stickPotential at best specification
20,000 sticks£0.39from £0.25
50,000 sticks£0.30from £0.20
150,000+ sticks£0.25from £0.18

These are indicative averages. Your final price depends on the formulation, ingredient profile, flavour system, sachet specification and delivery terms — a basic single-flavour run at volume costs less than a complex multi-mineral formula with premium actives. We always quote a firm price before you commit.

3. Can we brand the individual sticks, or only the outer packaging?

Either. Most buyers choose full individual stick branding — your logo and colours printed directly on every sachet, not just the box. This matters more than people expect: the stick is the unit that ends up in a passenger's seat pocket, a hotel guest's bag, or a customer's gym kit. An unbranded stick inside a branded box throws away most of the marketing value.

4. Do we need our own formula?

No. You have three routes:

  • Use a proven TRAVELYTES™ formulation — the fastest and most cost-effective path. Our existing profiles are already produced, tested and compliant.
  • Adjust a base formula — tweak flavour or mineral emphasis within an established framework.
  • Develop your own — if you have a specific formula or flavour concept, we can manufacture to it, subject to ingredient and regulatory review.

5. What if we want our own flavour developed?

That is what the Formulation Package (£650) is for. It includes:

  • Three distinct flavour/formulation concepts developed for your brief
  • Up to two rounds of adjustments based on your tasting feedback
  • Physical samples for evaluation
  • Final specification, allergen and nutrition data for your records and labelling

If you already have flavour ideas but no formula, this package bridges the gap. If you have neither, we will propose directions based on your market.

6. How long does production take?

Minimum 8 weeks on standard production, from signed-off artwork and specification to finished goods. Realistic timelines:

  • Rush — possible in some cases, quoted individually
  • Standard — 8 weeks
  • Comfortable — within 12 weeks, recommended for first orders and custom formulations

Custom formulations add development and sampling time before the 8-week clock starts, so plan accordingly.

7. What about shelf life and storage?

24 months shelf life from manufacture. Sticks are ambient-stable — no refrigeration, no special handling. They store and ship like any dry sachet product, which is precisely why the format works so well for travel retail, in-flight service and hotel amenity programmes.

8. Are there hidden setup costs?

No. Guide pricing is quoted inclusive of standard setup. The only separate line items are the optional £650 Formulation Package (only if you want custom flavour development) and delivery, quoted per order. You will see every cost before signing anything.

9. How is delivery handled?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to the UK and US — we handle shipping, duties and customs clearance to your door. Other destinations are quoted on request.

10. Why a travel-specific stick rather than a generic sports drink rebadge?

Because your customers are not at the gym. Cabin pressure, air conditioning, altitude, heat and long sedentary hours create a different hydration problem to a treadmill session — and a product designed for generic sport does not answer it. A travel-specific formulation gives your brand something your customers can feel the benefit of, rather than another sugary sports mix with your logo on it. It is also a category with far less own-label competition: shelves are full of private-label sports drinks, but almost nobody owns a private-label travel hydration brand.

Private-label electrolyte sticks: what airlines, hotels and cruise lines need to know before ordering

Short answer: Private-label TRAVELYTES™ sticks start at a 20,000-unit minimum order for full custom print, with co-branded master-case supply available below that. Every format carries a 24-month shelf life, GS1 barcodes, and DDP delivery to the UK and US.

Why this brief exists

Every quarter, more travel-industry procurement teams call us with the same question: "We want to offer branded hydration sticks to our passengers/guests/crew. Where do we start?"

Most of them have been round the block with generic sports-drink suppliers and left frustrated. Sports formulas are the wrong product for travel, sugar loads are unsuitable for premium cabins, and sticker-label rebranding is not the same as private label.

This is what a serious private-label programme actually looks like.

What "private label" actually means

There are three tiers, and buyers should be explicit about which one they are asking for:

1. Co-branded — TRAVELYTES™ + your logo on the front. Fastest to market. Retains category credibility of the parent brand. Suits airline amenity kits, hotel welcome trays and cruise cabin turn-down.

2. White label — Your brand on the front, no TRAVELYTES™ logo. TRAVELYTES™ manufactures, formulates and supplies compliance documentation. Suits airline loyalty programmes, hotel groups building a wellness sub-brand and cruise-line proprietary amenities.

3. Bespoke formulation — Custom flavour, custom stick weight, custom electrolyte ratio to a client brief. Longer lead time and higher MOQ. Suits multi-year airline contracts and military/institutional buyers.

Minimum order quantities

For any custom-branded production run, MOQ is 10,000 sticks for co-branded and white-label; higher for bespoke formulations. This is set by the flow-pack film print run, not by the powder — flexo-printed film has a fixed origination cost that only makes sense at volume.

Lead times

Typical: 8-12 weeks from artwork sign-off to delivery, split roughly:

  • 2 weeks artwork, print origination and regulatory checks
  • 4 weeks film print
  • 2 weeks powder blend, fill, pack
  • 1-2 weeks QC, batch documentation and dispatch

Faster is possible on repeat orders where the film is already in stock.

Regulatory considerations

Buyers should ask the following before committing to any private-label supplier:

  • Country-of-manufacture and country-of-supply compliance. UK-manufactured product must meet FSA labelling; US-supplied product must meet FDA supplement rules; EU-supplied product must meet 1169/2011 nutrition labelling.
  • Health claim scope. In the UK/EU, only Article 13.1 approved health claims can appear on-pack. "Prevents jet lag" and "cures dehydration" are not permitted anywhere. Suppliers who offer these claims are exposing you to enforcement risk.
  • Allergen and dietary status. Vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, halal-suitable, kosher-suitable. Ask for the certification, not the marketing claim.
  • Batch traceability. Each production run should ship with a certificate of analysis and a batch code that traces back to raw-material lots.

Format questions worth asking

  • Stick weight. 4g is the current travel-industry standard — matches airport-security powder allowances worldwide.
  • Serving size. Should mix into 500 ml of water without over-flavouring.
  • Sugar content. For premium cabin and hotel use, <2g per stick is the industry expectation.
  • Caffeine option. Some segments (business-class amenity, corporate loyalty) benefit from a caffeine variant alongside the standard.
  • Packaging finish. Matte vs gloss, foil vs paper, recyclable film certification.

The commercial questions procurement teams should ask

  1. Is the formulation shared with any competitor of ours?
  2. Can we lock a category exclusivity in our sector?
  3. What are the tiered price breaks at 10k / 50k / 100k / 500k sticks?
  4. What is the reorder lead time on a repeat run of the same film?
  5. What is the storage life at 25°C and 40°C?
