Private-label electrolyte sticks: what airlines, hotels and cruise lines need to know before ordering

Short answer: Private-label TRAVELYTES™ sticks start at a 20,000-unit minimum order for full custom print, with co-branded master-case supply available below that. Every format carries a 24-month shelf life, GS1 barcodes, and DDP delivery to the UK and US.
Why this brief exists
Every quarter, more travel-industry procurement teams call us with the same question: "We want to offer branded hydration sticks to our passengers/guests/crew. Where do we start?"
Most of them have been round the block with generic sports-drink suppliers and left frustrated. Sports formulas are the wrong product for travel, sugar loads are unsuitable for premium cabins, and sticker-label rebranding is not the same as private label.
This is what a serious private-label programme actually looks like.
What "private label" actually means
There are three tiers, and buyers should be explicit about which one they are asking for:
1. Co-branded — TRAVELYTES™ + your logo on the front. Fastest to market. Retains category credibility of the parent brand. Suits airline amenity kits, hotel welcome trays and cruise cabin turn-down.
2. White label — Your brand on the front, no TRAVELYTES™ logo. TRAVELYTES™ manufactures, formulates and supplies compliance documentation. Suits airline loyalty programmes, hotel groups building a wellness sub-brand and cruise-line proprietary amenities.
3. Bespoke formulation — Custom flavour, custom stick weight, custom electrolyte ratio to a client brief. Longer lead time and higher MOQ. Suits multi-year airline contracts and military/institutional buyers.
Minimum order quantities
For any custom-branded production run, MOQ is 10,000 sticks for co-branded and white-label; higher for bespoke formulations. This is set by the flow-pack film print run, not by the powder — flexo-printed film has a fixed origination cost that only makes sense at volume.
Lead times
Typical: 8-12 weeks from artwork sign-off to delivery, split roughly:
- 2 weeks artwork, print origination and regulatory checks
- 4 weeks film print
- 2 weeks powder blend, fill, pack
- 1-2 weeks QC, batch documentation and dispatch
Faster is possible on repeat orders where the film is already in stock.
Regulatory considerations
Buyers should ask the following before committing to any private-label supplier:
- Country-of-manufacture and country-of-supply compliance. UK-manufactured product must meet FSA labelling; US-supplied product must meet FDA supplement rules; EU-supplied product must meet 1169/2011 nutrition labelling.
- Health claim scope. In the UK/EU, only Article 13.1 approved health claims can appear on-pack. "Prevents jet lag" and "cures dehydration" are not permitted anywhere. Suppliers who offer these claims are exposing you to enforcement risk.
- Allergen and dietary status. Vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, halal-suitable, kosher-suitable. Ask for the certification, not the marketing claim.
- Batch traceability. Each production run should ship with a certificate of analysis and a batch code that traces back to raw-material lots.
Format questions worth asking
- Stick weight. 4g is the current travel-industry standard — matches airport-security powder allowances worldwide.
- Serving size. Should mix into 500 ml of water without over-flavouring.
- Sugar content. For premium cabin and hotel use, <2g per stick is the industry expectation.
- Caffeine option. Some segments (business-class amenity, corporate loyalty) benefit from a caffeine variant alongside the standard.
- Packaging finish. Matte vs gloss, foil vs paper, recyclable film certification.
The commercial questions procurement teams should ask
- Is the formulation shared with any competitor of ours?
- Can we lock a category exclusivity in our sector?
- What are the tiered price breaks at 10k / 50k / 100k / 500k sticks?
- What is the reorder lead time on a repeat run of the same film?
- What is the storage life at 25°C and 40°C?
